Daman, Dadra and Silvassa (Union Territory)
Daman, Dadra, Silvassa, Naroli, Amli, Khanvel and the rest of DNH&DD
Rule in force since 21 April 2025: under the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Tenancy Regulation, 2023 and Tenancy Rules, 2024, every tenancy agreement must be reported (intimated) to the Rent Authority within two months of signing. The owner and the tenant can report it together or separately. It is done online, with an OTP sent to your registered mobile number or email, and the Rent Authority sends a Unique Identification Number as an e-receipt within seven days.
- Make and sign the rent agreement. Keep a soft copy; you need it for the report. Free draft.
- Report the agreement to the Rent Authority within two months of signing, on the Rent Authority's online platform, and keep the Unique Identification Number it sends you. If you cannot find the platform, ask at the office of the Mamlatdar or the Collectorate in your district.
- Inform the police about the tenant through the Union Territory police citizen portal ("Tenant Verification") or at the local police station.
- Keep both receipts with the rent agreement.
Why it matters
- If a tenant who was never registered commits a crime, the owner can face action for not informing the police.
- In the Union Territory, a tenancy that was reported to the Rent Authority can be taken to the Rent Authority and Rent Court if there is a dispute over rent, deposit or getting the home back.
- Banks, societies and employers often ask for the registered agreement and the police acknowledgement.
