Stamp duty and registration charges in Daman, Dadra and Silvassa, 2026
Daman, Dadra and Silvassa are in one Union Territory, but the old rules of each part still apply. Daman follows the Daman and Diu rates, while Dadra and Silvassa follow the Dadra and Nagar Haveli rates. Both are charged on the higher of the price and the government value.
The rates
| Who pays | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Daman: stamp duty, man | 6% | Registration 0.5% |
| Daman: stamp duty, woman buying alone | 4% | Registration nil |
| Daman: stamp duty, joint man and woman | 5% | Registration 0.25% |
| Dadra and Silvassa: stamp duty, all buyers | 2% | Registration 2% |
Example: a ₹40,00,000 home
| Buyer | Stamp duty | Registration | Total to pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daman, man | ₹2,40,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹2,60,000 |
| Daman, woman buying alone | ₹1,60,000 | ₹0 | ₹1,60,000 |
| Daman, joint man and woman | ₹2,00,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹2,10,000 |
| Dadra or Silvassa, any buyer | ₹80,000 | ₹80,000 | ₹1,60,000 |
If the government value is higher than ₹40,00,000, the same rates apply to that higher value. When the price is ₹50 lakh or more, the buyer also deducts 1% TDS from the payment to the seller.
Good to know
Daman rates come from the UT Daman and Diu notifications of 18 December 2015 (numbers 4306 and 4307). Dadra and Silvassa duty comes from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli notification of 27 April 2011; the 2% registration fee there is common practice rather than a numbered notification.
Some websites give one rate for the whole UT (6%, or 4% for women). That fits Daman, not Dadra or Silvassa. Rates in the UT can change, so confirm with the Sub-Registrar before you pay.
